Keep Calm & Spook On


I love Halloween because no matter what your age, you are never too old for a good trick or treat. Every year I try to throw a small party for my friends on Halloween night, accompanied by a few tricks and treats of my own.

Coming up with new spooky or creepy themes is only half of the fun! This year I am drawing inspiration from my favorite TV show, Dexter, and using blood as my theme, complete with a blood bar! I also am making some amazing cupcakes with tiny axe's on top, which are to die for…

Halloween is supposed to be creepy and strange and gross and somewhat strange! There are so many different and easy ways to spook up your next event! Whether it is a bowl of jell-o worms, mummy hotdogs, black martinis with eyeballs, or even a white and black flower display, your guests are sure to leave with a smile on their face.

Picking the Perfect Palette


The Farthing Events office is currently being painted and paint colors have been consuming my thoughts the past few days. Color is an extremely important element in creating a mood not only in our office but also with our events. As Pablo Picasso once said “colors, like features, follow the changes of emotions”. When planning your event it is important to keep in mind that the color palette will eventually translate into the mood of your overall party.
Brides think that they can clump their three favorite colors together and call it a palette. This is not true at all, and in most cases is a recipe for tacky disaster. I know this sounds dramatic but one color can make or break the ambiance of your event.
When choosing your colors there is no specific rule book, but it is important to keep in mind several key elements such as the season of your big day, and the stage you are trying to set for your guests. Dark colors are usually best for winter while pastels are for spring. Keep in mind that floral and food availability will also play a role in the colors chosen for your event.
Instead of going straight to the color swatches it is easier to draw inspiration for your palette by looking through wedding, home décor, or even scrapbook magazines. It doesn’t even have to be wedding oriented, just find a picture that evokes your personal style and taste and pull colors you like and that go together. It is all about the mood and feeling you get from looking at it.
Rule of thumb is that it is usually best to stick to three colors, if you decide to use four or more then use them sparingly. The basic idea of choosing a palette is to find a main color that will be used more boldly and will pop against the accent colors. The accent colors should generally be more neutral and used as a base that is easy to accessorize by using your main color. When working with bright colors, patterns should be simplified because the colors speak for themselves.
We chose to use a dark grey for the office walls. It is neutral and can be accessorized with any color and still look great. Also, grey is supposed to evoke a feeling of calm. Hopefully it works, because it sure can get crazy around here at times!

Fresh and Fab Food

I just love it when I attend an event and the presentation of the food grabs my attention! I recently attended an event in LA where they suspended glass platforms from the ceiling and used them as food displays- so stunning! Although it might not be practical to suspend objects from the ceiling to use as your next food display, why not get creative and use things like shelves, bookcases, old cabinets and the list goes on and on! I love this bruschetta bar that is served out of a bookcase- yes.. that's correct... a bookcase! Who would have ever thought?! Not only is the presentation visually appealing but it becomes a conversation piece for your guests and it's those "little" touches that will make your next event stand out! Impress your guests at your summer bash by serving these fabulous caprese bites, veggie cups or these to die for cucumber gazpacho with wasabi shooters!! Bon appetit!

Whimsical Wonderland

Move over "vintage" flair, it's all about the bohemian whimsical wonderland! Brides are going bold and letting their true personalities shine through (which we HEART by the way!)

We absolutely adore this incredible photo shoot from Three Nails Photography. It automatically sucks you in and takes you to a magical place! From the carefully crafted wisteria flowers that hang daintily from the branches, to the succulents + lavender roses on the reception tables and our favorite of all... the cake with mushrooms! Doesn't that just make you feel like a kid all over again?

Perfect St. Patty's Day Party Tips!

Bring on the Green and Gold! (and a little rainbow please!)


We had the wonderful opportunity today to share some great St. Patrick's Day party tips on KTUL's Channel 8 Good Morning Oklahoma! 


And here they are....


1.) It's all in the atmosphere! Create an iTunes playlist full of Irish music! Search words like "bag pipe" or "shamrock" and you will be amazed at all the great options.

2.) You don't have to break the bank to throw a fabulous party! Get creative and use household items to create the perfect look. Pull out your clear vases and use them as food displays like we did today with our "green" veggie bar! Also, use those votive candles holders to display food picks, candy and so much more!

3.) Decor that fits your theme! We shared two stunning arrangements with you this morning from The French Bouquet Tulsa! They used a large clear vase, wrapped it with different colors and textures of ribbon and then created a beautiful display of hydrangeas and bells of Ireland (very theme appropriate!) Also- to tie in some color, they also created a beautiful rainbow themed floral arrangement that is bound to impress any guest at your party!

Super Bowl Bash - Party Perfection!



As always, we had a great time this morning on KTUL's Channel 8- Good Day Oklahoma where we shared some great tips and tricks for your Super Bowl Bash! In case you missed it, we have all the information right here at your fingertips!

1.) Seating and Viewing: I know it sounds SUPER simple, but it is often overlooked! This is one event that is purely dedicated to the television (thank goodness!) so make sure you have plenty of seating for all your guests! If you need additional seating, contact your local event rental company- it will totally be worth your while!

2.) Food & Beverage: No need to stress!!! Providing food for a large crowd can be overwhelming- but not this year! Think Simple and Creative! Instead of laying out a bowl of popcorn-get creative and dress up the presentation! Why not serve the popcorn in easy DIY paper cones? Or, to avoid any hassle at all- just contact your local cupcake shop to place your game day order and let someone else do the work!

3.) Decor and Activities: It's all about the Presentation people!! And.... pretty presentation does not mean you have to break the bank! Check out this easy DIY Football Field table runner that I made out of artificial turf which can be purchased from your local home improvement store for only $5 for 12 feet!! Grab a roll of white electrical tape and for under $10 you can create your own perfect presentation. Lastly, we can't forget about activities... believe it or not, guests like to feel involved and participate so why not make a game out of it? When guests arrive to your Super Bowl bash, have them write down their final score predictions and whoever gets the closest or guesses correctly, wins a small (preferably themed!) prize!

It's that simple! So take a deep breath and relax because your Super Bowl Bash will be the talk of the town!
